Are You 100% Sure?
If you died today, are you 100% sure you would go to Heaven?
The Bible says you can know.
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." (1 John 5:13)
God wants you to know for certain.
The Bible says:
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10)
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
Every one of us has broken God's commandments.
We've all lied.
We've all sinned. (1 John 3:4)
No one is good enough to earn Heaven.
The Bible says:
"For the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23a)
A wage is something you've earned.
Because of our sin, we deserve God's judgment.
The Bible calls this the "second death."
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (Revelation 20:14)
"...and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)
The bad news is that we deserve judgment.
God loves you.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. (John 1:14)
He lived a perfect, sinless life. (Hebrews 4:15)
Then He willingly went to the cross and paid for our sins.
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree..." (1 Peter 2:24)
Jesus died for your sins.
He was buried.
Three days later He rose again from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
The debt had been paid. (John 19:30, Colossians 2:14)
The Bible says:
"But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23b)
A gift cannot be earned.
You don't work for a gift. (Romans 11:6)
You simply receive it.
The Bible says:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Salvation is not earned by:
Salvation is God's free gift.
A man asked that exact question in the Bible:
"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30)
The answer was simple:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..." (Acts 16:31)
To believe means to place your trust completely in Jesus Christ. (Romans 4:5, Romans 4:21, Galatians 2:16, Philippians 3:9)
Not partly in Jesus and partly in yourself.
Not partly in Jesus and partly in your works.
Trust completely in what Christ did for you through His death, burial, and resurrection.
Jesus said:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." (John 6:47)
One of the greatest misunderstandings about salvation is the idea that a person must somehow keep themselves saved after receiving Christ.
Many people agree that salvation begins by faith, but then believe it is maintained by works, obedience, church attendance, or personal performance.
The Bible asks a powerful question:
"Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?" (Galatians 3:3)
If you could not save yourself, how could you keep yourself saved?
The Bible consistently describes salvation as:
"everlasting life" (John 3:16)
"eternal life" (John 10:28)
These words mean exactly what they say.
Everlasting means lasts forever.
Eternal means without end.
Jesus said:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." (John 6:47)
Notice that Jesus did not say:
Jesus said:
"He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
The moment a person believes on Christ, he possesses everlasting life.
If everlasting life could be lost tomorrow, then it was never everlasting life to begin with.
Jesus also said:
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:28)
Notice that Jesus did not merely promise life.
He promised eternal life.
And He did not merely say believers would probably not perish.
He said:
"They shall never perish."
If a believer could one day perish in Hell, then Christ's promise would not be true.
Throughout human history many have waxed eloquent, speaking words like, "God can do ANYTHING.", but did you know that's not true?
There is one thing the Bible says God cannot do: God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18, Numbers 23:19)
The Bible also says:
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." (1 John 5:13)
God does not want believers living in constant fear, wondering if they have done enough or remained faithful enough.
God wants believers to know that they have eternal life.
Salvation is not a reward earned by good works.
Salvation is:
"the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8)
A gift received by faith is not maintained by works. (Galatians 3:3)
Otherwise salvation would no longer be by grace. (Romans 11:6)
Good works are important. (Ephesians 2:10)
Church attendance is important. (Hebrews 10:25)
Bible reading is important. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Prayer is important. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Obedience is important. (John 14:15)
But none of these things save a person, and none of these things keep a person saved.
They are the result of salvation, not the cause of it.
When a person trusts Christ, God becomes their Father and they become God's child. (John 1:12)
Children may fail.
Children may wander.
Children may be disciplined.
But children do not stop being children.
Jesus said:
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:28)
" My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. " (John 10:29)
The believer's security does not rest upon the strength of his/her grip on Christ. It rests upon Christ's grip on them.
And not just the strong and almighty hand of Jesus Christ, but also the Father's hand. You may think you're strong, but you aren't that strong. lol
The eternal security of the believer is found in the promises of God, the finished work of Christ, and the gift of everlasting life that can never be lost.
Ironically, the very people Jesus warned about in Matthew 7:21-23 were not trusting too little in themselves - they were trusting too much in themselves.
They pointed to their works, their service, and their religious accomplishments rather than resting completely in Christ.
Jesus warned:
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:22-23)
Many people are trusting in what they do.
God says to trust in what Christ has already done.
Notice that Jesus did not say:
"I used to know you."
He said:
"I never knew you."
Those who do not believe & trust in Christ alone for their salvation will appear at the Great White Throne Judgment and will be judged by their works instead of receiving grace by accepting His free gift of salvation by trusting in the finished work of Christ alone. (See Revelation 20:11-15)
v11. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
v12. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
v13. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
v14. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
v15. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now, contrast that with those who believed on Christ and took part in the 1st Resurrection:
Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Jesus said:
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish..." (John 10:28)
If you will trust Jesus Christ alone as your Savior, God promises everlasting life.
Not temporary life.
Not probationary life.
Everlasting life.
Because God cannot lie, His promise is sure. (Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18)
Right now, you can place your faith in Jesus Christ.
Tell God from your heart:
"Lord, I know I am a sinner. I know I deserve judgment. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose again. I am trusting only in Jesus Christ to save me, not my works. Thank You for the free gift of everlasting life. Amen."
The prayer itself does not save you.
Jesus saves. Call upon the name of the Lord and He WILL save you. Romans 10:13
The moment you trust Him, God keeps His promise:
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36)
If you have trusted Christ alone as your Savior, according to the Word of God, you have everlasting life, you shall never perish, and you can know that you are going to Heaven.
We'd love to meet you and pray with you. Sunday Mornings @ 10:30am
